So you and your partner have decided to step up the date night. You want it to be more than just sitting at a cafe – breakfast, lunch or dinner. You want something that is going to leave you both feeling satisfied and with the warm fuzzies for days after.
If this sounds like you, then come on down south of Brisbane and treat yourselves to one of our romantic ideas below. From an experience only afforded by those who live in South Brisbane, we proudly present:
1) A cruise along the river With many high-rise apartment buildings lining the banks of the Brisbane River and countless tourist attractions nearby, there’s plenty you can see from a boat tour . If you’re feeling particularly, why not splurge on a romantic dinner cruise ?
2) A night at the theatre Have you ever heard of the QPAC in South Bank? It’s home to four theatres, plus it regularly hosts big name shows and events. Plus, there are lots of cafes and restaurants within walking distance, so you can make a whole day (or night!) out of it.
3) Explore Grey Street There is plenty to see and do on Grey Street – if you know where to look! We recommend putting your smart phones away for this one and following our guide .
4) A food crawl If you’re feeling like pizza , Korean , Californian-style Mexican or Japanese tapas (amongst others), get yourself down to James Street (just behind West End) for an incredible selection of restaurants.
5) Check out the weekend markets If you’re not familiar with some of Brisbane’s more exotic fruits and vegetables, then it might be time to get yourself along to some of the city’s farmers’ markets . You can pick up everything from home-made chutneys and dips to prepared meals (perfect for a date night in!)
6) Paint your own pottery We all know that food tastes better when it is served on matching dishes, so why not paint your own set? Well, there are actually quite a few places around town where you can do just that – but our favourite has to be Pottery Workshop on Grey Street.
7) Check out the Botanic Gardens Here’s another activity where the best view is from above – have a picnic on top of Mount Coot-tha and enjoy some world-class scenery . If all this walking around has left you feeling peckish, then you can’t go past the Botanic Gardens’ Palm House Cafe for an after-dinner beverage.
8) Visit the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary Watching koalas is not everyone’s cup of tea, but we’re sure most people would be happy to see them in their natural habitat (i.e. outside an enclosure). Plus, there are tons of other animals to keep your date occupied: wombats, kangaroos and koalas, oh my!
9) Go wine tasting Who doesn’t like wine? Brisbane is full of wineries, some set up for tours , others with cafes attached.
10) Catch a show at the Powerhouse Theatre Going to the theatre is definitely more expensive than most other things on this list, but it’s also one of our favourites! You can have your date night sorted out in no time – just be sure to book early!
11) Visit Art Galleries Why not start your evening off with dinner at South Bank and then peruse the many nearby art galleries and exhibitions . Even if you’re not into contemporary art, you might find something that catches your eye among all that culture.
